Filming Location (Permisson Letter)

A letter for permission to film at Woolwich poly school to find out wheter or not we can use the dance space and the dance members,to film our title sequence.Since Becky has close relations with someone that attends ,dance classes in that school.The letter was signed by Mr Grimsley,to make sure that we had permission to send the letter.If we are unable to use this location; other alternatives will be used such as the dance studio in our school.

Media journal-Week 9

This week,I focused on completing tasks for our title sequence.As a group we created a PowerPoint on Paramount;our chosen studio logo for Change the Beat title sequence.I created a questionnaire to research our target audience and to find out the type of font the audience preferred,for Change the Beat genre.I also put up the storyboards and discussed the possible location and shoots that should be used for the sequence.
This week we had to cancel filming for Friday,coming up due to Becky's illness; however a decision was made to start filming the following Friday.Becky assured the group she would be in,and plus it is imperative that each member of the group attends the making of the sequence. The main problem was that Becky's house was the main location,because she had the main props,costumes and space we needed. After we solved the shooting schedule problem,film shots and location recce shots were discussed to ensure that progress would be made within the next week Thursday and Friday. Overall I hope that after shooting we will have enough time to edit the shoots in time for the deadline ,without any problems or issues.

Music/sound research and final soundtrack decision.

I have decided that this is the type of music that will be suitable for Change the beat title sequence because they both seem to have the vibe we are looking for.Big Boss will be for the dancing in the sequence.Perfection will be used when it comes to the main character (Frankie)in the wheelchair.

This tune has a urgent, powerful urban RnB groove type of vibe that will need in the title sequence because it will add to the sequence;with its powerful sound and urban feel,which would portray the titles genre.This will set a strong tone and mood for the title sequence.

This tune has RnB/hip hop with repetitive piano & strings.This soundtrack I have chosen will be used as a back up,alternative incase we are unable to use the other soundtrack;Big boss.

Perfection soundtrack:

This tune has rock solid, driving old school soul/RnB song featuring two soul singers.This tune will be used as a contrapuntal sound; to contradict the main characters situation.

Change the Beat (storyboards)

These are the storyboards created for the title sequence (Change the Beat). Every scene has been drawn. Although the feedback given, was to include images of dancing before an image of the injury. The title sequence will take a maximum of two minutes,which I think is an appropriate time for a title sequence.Over all, the storyboard plan will be used when it comes to filming. The two locations are Becky's house for the wheelchair scenes and a Dance school for the dance scenes.

Media journal- Week 8

This week, myself and my group focused on completing the storyboards and producing an animatic to put on our blogs.Making the storyboard into an animatic gave us an idea of how it would look like and how long the title sequence would be.I also created a calendar to jot down the days that we were planning to film and all the necessary things we have done in order for our project to run smoothly. Our decision ,this week is to film every friday evening because that is the only time our actors are free to participate in our title sequence filming.We also decided that we would do the location recce shots on fridays. I briefly discussed the sound/music for the sequence, as we need an alternative because the recent sound/music that was suggested had copyright on it.

Media journal-Week 7

This Christmas week, I watched Dorian gray,Hugo, Confessions of shopaholic and Hairspray. I particularly focused on the title sequence. All the films I watched this Christmas were all made up different genres,which I think was portrayed through the title sequence. Looking at all these genres(thriller,historical fiction,Rom-com and musical comedy);the different titles sequence are quite effective and convey the film's ideology.


Mise-en-scene is shown in some of them,whilst films like Dorian gray had a sort of mysterious and dark way of portraying the film. This definitely created an enigma for the audience. As I watched the title sequence I couldn't gather information such as the narrative/storyline. Although the images faded in and out quite quickly, it was obvious it looked like paintings of the main character.The titles were gold and italic with an effect that looked like splashed paint or blood across the font. Once I realized that, I thought the would a series of dark scenes and murder scenes in the movie.


In the film, Hugo the theme of time,clocks and mending e.g(relationship,friendship,robots)is conveyed through the sequence.The birds eye view of Paris streets looks like a clock.This was a very clever way to incorporate a clock into the parisian streets.The sequence shows a sense of time being lost/missed out on.Which could be a lack of personal time,family time,childhood time.In this film the theme of time has been shown through the narrative,whereby a boy loses time with his mother and father due to their absences.He also loses time with close friends and school.The one memory he holds of his father is the robot called an automon which he and his father used to spend time fixing together.This automon is linked with an a man who used to be passionate about films before the 1920's.This man is an unhappy because time has passed by so fast nobody remembers his work on film making.The boy tries to help by showing the man that himself and others are still interested in his,but because of the war a majority of people lacked interested.This theme of time is very significant to the narrative.

Media Journal-Week 6

This week I looked at different types of typography, I would use in our title sequence. For example I looked at urban,graffiti and tyre type of font because they all relate to the message that I am trying to portray in the title sequence, which myself and my group is creating.(Change the Beat). The urban font I have chosen is to create the vibe that the film is modern and set in the city. The graffiti gives a sense of street style font.The tyre font suggest that it is a street type of dance movie and the one specific thing we are trying to convey is the fact the dance has a twist.The twist is,the main character moves on to wheelchair dancing due to the fact that the main character has had an accident and has no other choice but to follow his dream through this style of dancing. All the different types of typography embody a sort of boldness and movement vibe within them,which I think is needed in our title sequence because the theme of the sequence is hope and change,therefore it should be projected through the title.
