Media Journal-Week 5

week5:The last week before christmas-We basically watched films and I paid close attention to the title sequence's.I found that the different title sequence's had their own way's of portraying the films. Some I thought were quite effective and others were quite confusing and in my opinion did not express the meaning or the purpose of the film.I also focused on the type of typography used. Most of them were quite simple and plain whilst others were bold and more meaningful. As I watch the films ,I tried to match the narratives to the sequence and I thought about how I would convey the narrative through a title sequence.

Change the Beat (Presentation pitch)

Change the beat
View more presentations from Hannah Odonkor.
As a group we were instructed to develop an idea for a new movie. Our hybrid-genre was romance-tragedy-dance which we felt was a good idea for our target audience(15-25) because it relates to teenage life. This powerpoint talks about the narrative of our film idea. This will has given us ideas in terms of making a title sequence .The feedback we received from our teacher was to add our title sequence idea to the presentation and to always talk about the narrative of film first before anything else.

Groundhog day (remake)

Groundhog day is about a person ,who finds himself reliving the same day over and over again. He then realises that he has to do something right in order for the day to end.

Me and Yasmin came up with the idea that the title sequence was going to portray the story in a very simple way, which would instantly attract the audience.

The idea:

The Album portrays the characters life. Therefore we used it to fill pictures of his day being repeated over and over again with the typography of the cast starring the film, below the images.Even though every page will have the same images, the character's facial expression will be different on every page showing the audience his confusion.Whilst the audience views the images the pages flip faster and faster towards the end. Then the book shuts with the title (Groundhog day)on the front cover. After this the movie will then begin.

Three images on each page will be shown.(1.Character wakes up and hits alarm,2.Character eats breakfast,3.Character in the park.)the reason we have decided to show three images ,as we don't want to uncover the full story in the title sequence. It would just give the audience an idea of the film. The post-tick notes,(British flag)stamps and (British flag)badges surrounding the images are like souvenirs/reminders for the characters day in Britain. The souvenirs/reminders show a british theme throughout the sequence.

Film industry (presentation)

In our lesson ,we were asked to pitch a film idea that best suited the film studio given to us.In this case my group were given Paramount vantage studio therefore we had to create a low budget film for this particular studio. After researching,I had found that Paramount vantage studio had produced many teen movies at a low budget. My group and myself presented our idea to the class. They then guessed which studio we were pitching ourselves to. Our genre was quirky teen comedy. The simplest way to describe the movie idea is (Mean girls meet She's the man.)

Media Journal-Week 4

Week4:This week myself and my group did planned out a story board for our dance title sequence idea.I drew some of the images that we would see in the sequence at differnt angles and as a group we dicussed the angles and shots we needed to make the sequence a successs. We also looked into logo's and came up with many ideas to name our production. For example jump production,JYBH production(first letter of our names),pathway production and so on. I also looked at possible typography we could use for our title sequence such as tyre style or street style that was associated with our genre.

Media Journal-Week 3

Week 3:This week myself and my group learnt how to present our ideas to an audience, by keeping the idea precise, straight to the point and simple, but different from other ideas. Also looking at other ideas presented by ohter groups, helped us realise what we had to add to our presentation. The advice given to us was to think about the type of people who would want to see the film and add to the powerpoint how you would go about making the title sequence. Our response was to present the title sequence as a prolog, which I think will really work for our dance title sequence idea. This week I also learnt about film distribution and how it works between the producer and the exhibitors.
