Mise-en-Scene

Costume:In this sequence the characters are wearing smart clothes that is usually worn for work. The men are wearing suits and the women are dressed in conservative clothing. The costume is presented in a rough and dirty sort of way due to the events that occur in the sequence. The costume gives the audience a sense of what type of character they are.

Lighting:The sequence contains high key lighting and low key lighting, the importance of this is to show the audience the significance of each character.for example low key lighting may be used to show that a character has an evil side whilst the high key lighting may be used to show the good character. In this sequence high key lighting is used to show the important events happening whilst low key lighting is shading the less important events.

Acting/body language:The action in the sequence has been shown in a slow motion montage. This has an interesting effect and emphasizes the movement of the characters and helps the audience to closely see what is happening.

Make-up:The make-up in the sequenced has been used to express the narrative, basically characters that have been infected with a disease are affecting others and killing others. The make-up is heavy with a lot going on;scars, cuts, blood and wounds to make it look realistic. The make-up definitely implies that the film genre is horror, because of the way the characters are running wildly with scary zombies chasing them.

Props:In this sequence the props are mainly violent harmful weapons such as crow bars, guns, knives and more harmful objects are used to attack other characters.

Setting/Location:The location in the in sequence varies, but most of the shots seem to have been taken in a town. The dark globe on the title suggests that the events are happening on earth, although it looks like a different planet.Which seems like a scary place to be,revealing to the audience it is not a normal place to be.

Title font:The most interesting element of the sequence is the title font, which connotes death, blood and disease because of the deep red and black colours surrounding the typography. The typography is shown in a three-dimensional way ,which makes it seem like they are objects within the scene, without the characters acknowledging them. The way the letters disappear as the characters crash and smash the typography signifies pain or death. The 3D title "Zombieland"looks realistic because of the way it breaks like a window suggests that everything is out of control.

Camera angles:There are a range of camera shots and angles in the sequence that help portray the characters in the sequence. The angles/shots consist of wide shot and long shot to see the characters movement and there is a lot of background scenery being shown. The close up shots are shown in order for the audience to see the characters reaction to the situation. The low angle shots are used to show the distance of a character or of an object. The camera angles narrate the story from a different perspective. The slow motion shows the precise movement and angles within the sequence.

Establishment of the film:The sequence establishes the genre, the characters and the narrative of the film because it sets the tone and the vibe for the audience, especially with the sound track. The sound connotes fear, pain, evil and death because of the heavy beat it has.Every time someone hears the soundtrack,it will memory the film and recognize where it comes from.
