Typography ideas:

This is the type of typography that I think would be suitable for (Change the beat)title sequence because it has this type of street edge to the title.I like the fact that it looks sort of urban with is the vibe the title sequence should create. The font is bold and kind of resembles street/graf
fiti writing. The sharp edges makes it look strong and the dark border is like the story behind the person(main character). There is a sort of movement feeling that the "Bea" typography creates, which could also portray that the film genre is dance. The lines that form the words show a form of movement and maybe a change of path. The words "Cha"in (change) are joint together and "Bea"in (beat) suggests that there are groups of dancers competing. In this film a group of dancers compete but the main character injures himself. He then goes to create his own group, although he is disabled. For example the "Change"
is competing with a separate group"Beat". "the" in between the words draws the lines as if there is two sides, which is what it suggests.

This typography looks rugged connoting the streets. This links to our street dance type of movie. The tyre prints look rough and tough, this links with dance because of the movements. This will ensure that Change the beat will be expressed in strong and street type of way in the title sequence. The crosses on the font are like lines crossing out the past. Also the way the lines cross over each other suggest that there is a different path of hope to follow. The lines overlapping also look like railings/barbed wire this denotes restriction because of the way it seems like someone could trap themselves. The holes in between the barbed wire looking font implies freedom; there is hope and an opportunity to change.

Audience and Institutions

Aims:
To be able to indicatehow film distribution works.
To be able to understand the difference between the Us&Uk film systems.

Keywords:Producers,distributors,exhibitor,Studio

What is the purpose of a film distributor?
-Promote/advertise
-Franchise
-Synergy
-Advertising company
-Delivers films to audience
-Cinema
-Test the film
-Priemere
-Home release DvD's
-Marketing

A film distributor is the link between the producer and the exhibitors(the cinema chains,T.v.networks;their aim is to get as many people as possible to see the film.
-The distributor markets the film and develops an appriopriate advertising campaign.
-To market sucessfully the distributor has to target the appriopriate audience.
-This can be easy if there is a star, but harder in the case of low-budget independent films.

Honey (title sequence)

Watch up to 3:20

I have also chosen this title sequence ,which is also a dance genre that is very similar to our title sequence hybrid genre idea. This is the second movie I researched into and I found that there are similar elements in this dance movie that I would like to transfer to (Change the beat).

The codes and conventions of this titles sequence is as follows:

-The characters are introduced in the sequence through the titles and how they act;showing their character type. The characters are shown as lively characters at a club having fun dancing. The main characters are shown with their names beside them with a close-up on them. They make it clear who the main characters are because they camera is constantly monitoring their movements, whilst capturing the background scenery. The lead dancers are females dancing but not competitively just for fun.Although this is shown the female rival seems to be jealous. The camera is focused movements to keep the audience excited .

-The film titles are shown in a bold ,blue, and bright font.on the dancing. The titles are incorporate a sort of club style, fun and exciting vibe to the sequence. The titles appear every few seconds with lights glowing on each letter. In my opinion this looks like disco lights bouncing and shining on to shiny dance floors representing energy. The title font are shaped in a smooth and curved way representing movement.

-The order of the titles in this sequence go from studio name to the film name then to the most important characters and finally the crew members then editor, director and the last title is the producer. This is a reasonable order which can be used in (Change the beat) ,however the font will be smaller and a different colour. The typography of the film name is bold, strong looking with a silver and a red boarder. The silver represents the success they will battle for and the red the danger/risk they are taking to win the competition. The title represents movement and the strength that the dancers have got and put in to dance. The silver and the red combined together represent some sort of energy. This type of title could be Incorporated into (Change the Beat) because I would like to portray energy and excitement through the typography.

-The indication of the location is shown through the establishment shot at the beginning of the scene then a high angle above the club then a zoom in straight into the club. There are long shots of people dancing and wide shots showing the background. In the background a people are shown buying drinks and dancing. The location seems like the suburbs however the club seems to be located near the city. This type of location is also a good idea because of the vibe the city and club life creates. There is an open space that can be used for dancers, however the setting would not be suitable for (Change the beat).

-The indication of the period is recognizable, their costumes, the language and action suggests the time period the movie is set in. This is very important and needs to be shown because the audience needs to be aware. In this case this film is seems like 21st century /modern type of movie .This will be something that I think will be conveyed in (Change the Beat)title sequence.

-The information regarding the mood and tone has been shown through the language, action and the dancing. The costumes portray the mood of the dancers and the tone is set through the music. The tone the mood is one code/convention that I think should be implemented into our title sequence.

-In the sequence the theme tune is ,up-beat and fun which is what the title sequence is trying to convey. This is one element of the title sequence I feel has to be included in a dance type of film because the theme music , will give some sort of edge and excitement to the sequence. This theme music will also introduce the type of music that will be played within the movie. This is kind of setting/preparing the audience for the movie.

-The genre of the movie is shown through the cinematography, which is vital information for the audience because without knowing the genre the audience may be confused as to what they about to watch because the ambiguous title sequence. The genre is a significant part of the sequence, this needs to be shown or expressed through any title sequence, therefore I will make sure it is shown in (Change the Beat).

-Our group will consider including an enigma, just so the audience can ask questions For example(what is going on?why is this happen?who is in this group?) This title sequence creates some sort of enigma because they want viewers to wonder why and want to discover what is actually going on by watching the film. Setting an enigma up for the audience will be needed in our title sequence because it need a bit of ambiguity in order to interest the audience to watch further.

-The patterns and types of editing are echoed in this film, but only when it comes to the dancing. The patterns and the types of editing used may be considered ,but on the other hand it may not be extremely as important as the other code and conventions shown (Honey) dance film.

-The mise-en-scene is the most significant element of the title sequence because it is what will be echoed in the film. From this sequence the mise-en-scene is shown, which gives the audience a sense of what is going to be shown in the film.In the scene one of the props shown is a video camera, this will not be used in (Change the beat) title sequence because the sequence will lack a good quality.

You got served (title sequence)

Watch up to 4:40

I have chosen this title sequence because it is a dance genre which is similar to our title sequence idea.Although our idea is a hybrid genre. I researched into different types of dance movies and found that this was one of the closest to our idea(Change the Beat).

The codes and conventions of this titles sequence is as follows:
-The character are introduced in the scene through the titles and how they are portrayed in the first scene. In this case they are shown as lively,up beat dancers enjoining themselves and making a living for themselves. The main characters are shown with their names and a close-up on them to make it clear that they are the main characters. This element of the sequence is very important because it will determine how the audience will view and acknowledge the characters. The dance group in this sequence is shown on the camera from different angles and constantly doing exciting movements to keep the audience focused on them .Basically they are the group to watch.

-The film titles are shown in a bold ,white, medium and clear font either at the top of the screen or the bottom,in order to keep the audience focused on the dancing. The titles come at a fast pace for the audience to quickly read whilst watching the dancing. The order of the titles in this sequence go from studio name to the film name then to the most important characters and finally the crew members then editor, director and the last title is the producer. This type of title could be Incorporated into (Change the Beat) because I would like to portray energy through the typography.

-The indication of the location is shown through the various wide shots, high angle and long shots. In the background a crowd is shown standing around the dancers screaming.the location looks like a a warehouse. This we might take into consideration because of the amount of open space that can be used for dancers,an alternative will be to use an open dance floor located in a dance school.

-The indication of the period is recognizable, their costumes and the background scenery pretty much portrays the time period the movie is set in. This is very important and needs to be shown otherwise the audience will be confused. In this case this film is quite contemporary/modern.This will be something that I would definitely consider incorporating into (Change the Beat)title sequence.

-The information regarding the mood and tone has been shown through the movements of the dancers. The costumes portray the mood of the dancers and the tone is set through the music. The tone the mood is one code/convention that I think should be implemented into our title sequence because the mood and tone help to convey the narrative.

-In the sequence the theme tune is loud,up-beat and fun which is what the title sequence is trying to convey. This is one element of the title sequence I feel has to be included in a dance type of film because the theme music , will give some sort of edge and excitement to the sequence. This theme music will also introduce the type of music that will be played within the movie. This is kind of setting/preparing the audience for the movie.

-The genre of the movie is shown through the cinematography, which is vital information for the audience because without knowing the genre the audience may be confused as to what they about to watch because the title sequence was unclear.

-The patterns and types of editing are echoed in this film, especially when it comes to the dance competitions. The patterns and the types of editing used may be considered ,but on the other hand it may not be extremely as important as the other code and conventions shown (You got served) dance film.

-The mise-en-scene is most significant element of the title sequence because it is what will be echoed in the film. From this sequence the mise-en-scene is shown, which gives the audience a sense of what is going to be shown in the film.

Media Journal-Week 5

week5:The last week before christmas-We basically watched films and I paid close attention to the title sequence's.I found that the different title sequence's had their own way's of portraying the films. Some I thought were quite effective and others were quite confusing and in my opinion did not express the meaning or the purpose of the film.I also focused on the type of typography used. Most of them were quite simple and plain whilst others were bold and more meaningful. As I watch the films ,I tried to match the narratives to the sequence and I thought about how I would convey the narrative through a title sequence.

Change the Beat (Presentation pitch)

Change the beat
View more presentations from Hannah Odonkor.
As a group we were instructed to develop an idea for a new movie. Our hybrid-genre was romance-tragedy-dance which we felt was a good idea for our target audience(15-25) because it relates to teenage life. This powerpoint talks about the narrative of our film idea. This will has given us ideas in terms of making a title sequence .The feedback we received from our teacher was to add our title sequence idea to the presentation and to always talk about the narrative of film first before anything else.
